Nika mentions the coagulant she used to stop the bleeding. I used a real life medicine - Celox - as a reference. It is based on chitosan - natural polymer extracted from crustacean shells such as shrimp, crabs and crayfish (remember the ones Tim boied? there are lots of them on the islands of the world of "Gifts..."). Coagulant based on chitosan can be put right into the wound, it rapidly clots blood, has antibacterial properties, and you don't have to remove it afterwards: it will be naturally metabolized by the patient's body.

"Gifts of wandering ice" webcomic is based on the short novel written by Makarova Olga. The story differs a bit though. Both art and English translation were made by the author of the original novel. English being not her mother tongue, there may be errors. Should you notice any, please do not hesitate to contact her.
